I experimented with drugs and soon started stripping. My first night I made $90. To a teenager who'd been stealing food to eat, that seemed pretty good, I was "hooked." Soon I was making pretty good money. I also made friends in the profession who encouraged me to start escorting on the side so I could make even more money and gain some business independence. That first year I was headed down a path of self destruction and self indulgence. It took the tragic death of a very close friend of mine before I realized the very real, negative consequence of drugs.

In the following years, I continued to strip; however, I was starting to put my life together in a more positive way when I met a girl that became one of my best friends to this day. Her influence on me changed my life. At that time she was stripping to help pay for culinary school. We talked about many things and I still remember her advice, "The decisions you make today will affect you for the rest of your life." She told me to look around me and asked, "When you get older do you still what to do this? Do you think they'd even let a grandma on the stage?" I knew I didn't want to stay there forever, but I never seriously considered anything else! Jess urged me to continue my education, because, as she put it, even though I might lose my job, friends, even family, I would never lose my education. She helped me study and eventually get my GED. And with her advice in mind, I strive to learn everything I can, regardless of the business I am in.

A few years later, I started down the college path but I still did not know what I wanted to do. So, I took general business classes at a community college; however, late nights trying to make enough money at the strip clubs did not work well with my college workload. This was when I decided to quit stripping altogether and work full time as an escort, intergradeing what I was learning in my classes to help me navigate the business side of things. This was a couple years before the escort services got online, so it was difficult to get started and riskier, with business being spread through word of mouth and personal ads. Still, the allure of making money and having more control convinced me to make the switch. I soon realized I could make more in an hour or two than I could some nights in the club. I more than doubled my income and cut my working time in half.

I spent about 7 years, off and on, in the escort business, until my early thirties. I have seen both the good and bad sides it has to offer.
